Inside The Portal O' Treats
The Portal O' Treats is our Halloween book, the cozy kind of spooky. It's about being the new kid in the neighborhood, and a group of friends who look nothing alike.
The story
Every year a portal opens, and Max, Howl, Prowl and Fang slip into our world to trick-or-treat in plain sight. This year, Lucy discovers their secret.

Behind the scenes
-

A real cat inspired Lucy. Our mischievous Maine Coon, Fenrys. Lucy's own Maine Coon is on her bed, next to her cat costume.
-

Lucy's first sketch. She had her cat costume from the very first pencil lines.
-

About meeting someone new. There's always a little pause, then the brave part: "Want to be friends?"
-

A bonus print. This year, the little ghosts from the portal got their own: Ghostly Halloween Party.
Fun facts to share at bedtime
-

Halloween's roots are about 2,000 years old. They go back to Samhain, a Celtic festival when people believed the line to the spirit world grew thin.
-

Dressing up is old, too. Kids in Scotland and Ireland went "guising," dressing up and visiting homes for treats.
-

In the book, it's flipped. The creatures are the ones in disguise, blending in with the trick-or-treaters.
The heart of the story
Every friend helps in their own way: Max's ribbons become a rope, Prowl's nose finds Fang, Howl's ears keep watch and Lucy's map shows the way.
Our differences made us an amazing team.
Ask at bedtime Which friend would you be on Lucy's team?
The characters (and their sky)
Each friend has a print of their own, and so do the dancing lights that open the portal.
